Covered porches are made for East Texas weather: shade in summer, a dry place to watch the rain in spring. Most porch rot we see starts where boards meet the house or where gutters dump water.

Porch boards rot first where they stay wet: near the house, under downspouts and at the ends where water soaks into the cut. We fix the cause along with the boards, adding a small gap at the house, flashing at the ledger and redirecting downspouts so the new porch lasts.
